Archduke Ferdinand, heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary
was travelling in Sarajevo.
A Serb patriot shot and killed him and his wife
- Austria declared war on Serbia,
- Russia declared war on Austria
- Germany declared war on Russia's allies, France (& Britain)
- And WW1 had begun...
