1. The Journey
September 8 - 11, 2004: travelling from Winnipeg to Toronto in “ol’ Harry,” a car well past its prime.
2. Getting started
September 12 - 16, 2004: enrolling at the University of Toronto, and beginning the research process.
3. Deep Study
September 17 - 24, 2004: frustration and progress in the research portion of my time at the University of Toronto; bringing “ol’ Harry,” into line; and heading off to the cottage.
4. Solitude
September 25 - October 5, 2004: intensive study and writing in the amazing fall splendour of a Québec forest - and more trouble with “ol’ Harry,”.
5. Thanksgiving
October 6 - 10, 2004: an adventure or two as Heather joins me at the lake for Canadian Thanksgiving.
6. Cuddesdon
October 11 - 21, 2004: arriving in England, and getting settled at a theological college six miles out of Oxford; adventures with a bicycle begin.
7. The Bodleian
October 22 - 27, 2004: beginning research in one of the world’s greatest libraries.
8. Magdalen Chapel
October 28 - November 3, 2004: the spiritual high point of the sabbatical.
9. Taking Stock
November 4 - 14, 2004: the time spent in England draws to a close.
10. B.C.
November 15 - 23: once more back in Canada, in Vernon, British Columbia for a preaching engagement at my son’s church.
12. The Final Sprint
November 24 - December 14, 2004: the last phase of the sabbatical is spent in Toronto, working intensely on the book; a final, wintery, drive across Canada to get home.
