Prayers . . .

Almighty and everlasting God,
who art always more ready to hear
      than we to pray,
and art wont to give more
    than either we desire or deserve:
Pour down upon us the abundance of thy mercy;
forgiving us those things whereof our conscience is afraid,
and giving us those good things
      which we are not worthy to ask,
but through the merits and mediation
of Jesus Christ, thy Son, our Lord.
   - Book of Common Prayer, Canada (1962)
     Collect for the Twelfth Sunday after Trinity

O holy Jesus,
most merciful Redeemer,
Friend, and Brother:
may we know thee more clearly,
love thee more dearly,
and follow thee more nearly,
day by day.
   - attributed to St.Richard of Chichester

Almighty God,
you have made us for yourself,
and our hearts are restless
until they find their rest in you.
May we find peace in your service,
and in the world to come, see you face to face;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN
   - Collect for a Sunday in mid-July,
     based on a phrase of St.Augustine's

Almighty God,
without you we are not able to please you.
Mercifully grant that your Holy Spirit may in all things
direct and rule our hearts;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN.
   - Collect for a Sunday in mid-June

Teach us, good Lord,
to serve you as you deserve;
to give, and not to count the cost;
to fight, and not to heed the wounds;
to toil, and not to ask for rest;
to labour, and not to ask for any reward,
save that of knowing that we do your will;
through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
   - the prayer of St.Ignatius

Lord, for thy tender mercies' sake,
lay not our sins to our charge;
But forgive that is past,
and give us grace to amend our sinful lives;
To decline from sin, and incline to virtue,
That we may walk with a perfect heart
before thee, now and evermore.

   - The Book of Common Prayer
     Penitential service

O God of unchangeable power and eternal light,
look favourably on your whole Church,
that wonderful and sacred mystery.
By the effectual working of your providence,
carry out in tranquillity the plan of salvation.
Let the whole world see and know
that things which were cast down are being raised up,
and things which had grown old are being made new,
and that all things are being brought to their perfection
by him through whom all things were made,
your Son Jesus Christ our Lord;
who lives and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

   - Canadian Book of Alternative Services
   - Intercessions for Good Friday

O Almighty God, who alone canst order
the unruly wills and affections of sinful men:
Grant unto thy people, that they may
love the thing which thou commandest,
and desire that which thou dost promise;
that so, among the sundry and manifold changes of the world,
our hearts may surely there be fixed,
where true joys are to be found;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
